I’m Martin Jones, a TV and radio journalist from Bristol, England. I currently work for the BBC, mostly at Points West but sometimes at Radio Bristol. I have formerly worked at radio station BBC Somerset, where I focused on crime and justice issues. I was formerly news editor at Star Radio in Bristol, now The Breeze. I also worked for its sister station Jack FM.

I work for the BBC and am contractually obliged to point out that anything posted here is my own view, not that of the BBC. It doesn’t matter that the BBC is a vast organisation, rather than a human being, and is therefore incapable of having “views”. But that doesn’t affect the corporation’s policy on social media: they still make us put that. More importantly, I try not to express views as such and if I do, that’s a mistake. My work is really about facts, not opinions.

The site is called ‘Jones The News’ because three separate radio breakfast presenters have referred to me on air as ‘Jones The News’ while doing a comedy Welsh accent.

  1. Hi Martin, good blog, very well written. I’ve posted a link on Twitter and passed on to a few other bloggers. You might well find Twitter useful yourself.

  2. […] I researched and produced this piece about the rise in the number of Spanish people coming to live and work in Bristol. It was broadcast on BBC Points West on 18 March 2014, and the story was subsequently picked up by a variety of other media. I’d be very interested to hear from other people moving to Bristol or the West Country for work. Feel free to get in touch email address is on my About Page […]
